BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh Faces Setback as Court Rejects Petition Seeking Fresh Probe

Since Independence

On the one hand, the BJP has not yet decided on the ticket for MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's Kaiserganj seat, while on the other hand, the MP has received a major setback from the court.

The Rouse Avenue Court has dismissed an application by BJP leader Brij Bhushan. The MP had submitted an application to the court requesting further investigation and the presentation of call detail records of a coach. The case is now set for a hearing on May 7.

Charges to Be Framed on May 7

Before this, MP Brij Bhushan had claimed in court that he was not in Delhi on September 7, 2022, at the time of the incident, and therefore, a re-investigation of the charges should be conducted. He had also requested a copy of the call detail record (CDR) for the case.

Following these responses, the court had reserved its decision until April 26. Today, the Rouse Avenue Court has dismissed the application submitted by MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and has set May 7, 2024, to announce its order on framing charges in the case involving allegations of sexual harassment by six female wrestlers against Brij Bhushan Singh.

What Is The whole Matter?

Delhi Police filed a charge sheet against MP Brij Bhushan Singh in June 2023. On June 15, 2023, the police requested the court to dismiss the case related to a minor wrestler and remove the POCSO charge, as during the investigation, the wrestler’s father claimed he had filed false sexual harassment charges against the MP for revenge.

However, the investigation into the matter involving other wrestlers is still ongoing. In a separate case based on complaints from six female wrestlers, the police maintained charges of sexual harassment and stalking against Singh.

The police recommended dismissing the complaint related to the minor wrestler, stating that "no concrete evidence was found." Meanwhile, MP Brij Bhushan Singh has categorically denied all allegations against him.
