A bizarre incident has emerged from a government hospital in Kerala. A 4-year-old girl came for finger surgery, but the doctor mistakenly performed surgery on her tongue instead.
After the surgery, the girl's parents filed a complaint against the doctor. Due to the uproar caused by the incident, the doctor who performed the surgery has been suspended.
Doctors are considered the second form of God, yet a 4-year-old girl became a victim of a doctor's negligence. According to reports, the girl was supposed to have surgery on her finger, but the doctor performed surgery on her tongue instead.
When the girl's parents were asked about the incident, they explained that their daughter was admitted to the hospital to have her sixth finger removed.
However, after the surgery, when the girl was brought out of the operating theatre, it was discovered that surgery had been performed on her tongue.
When the parents saw the tongue surgery and asked the doctors why the tongue surgery was done instead of the finger surgery, they were told that there was a cyst inside her mouth that needed to be removed. This is why tongue surgery was necessary.
Hospital authorities disclosed that two surgeries were scheduled for the same day, leading to the inadvertent tongue surgery on the girl.
Following the incident, there has been widespread outrage across the state. Health Minister Veena George suspended Dr Bijon Johnson after receiving a report from the Director of Medical Education. Stringent directives have been issued to hospitals to strictly adhere to protocols.
In response to the family's complaint, police have filed a case under sections 336 and 337 of the IPC against the doctor. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan has strongly criticized the entire incident.
