The deepfake video of actress Rashmika Mandanna had shocked many people. Now, in a significant development, Delhi Police has successfully apprehended the individual responsible for creating the deepfake video of Rashmika. According to the information, the age of this person is between 23 and 24 years.
The police had been investigating Rashmika's case since November, and finally, they have achieved a major breakthrough.
Following Rashmika's video, similar deepfake videos of actresses Alia Bhatt, Kajol, and former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar had also gone viral on social media.
On Saturday, the Delhi Police arrested the individual responsible for creating the deepfake video featuring Rashmika Mandanna. The person was apprehended by the IFSO unit of Delhi Police's Special Cell from Andhra Pradesh.
The video, which went viral on social media on November 6, 2023, initially displayed Rashmika Mandanna's face.
Later investigations revealed that deepfake technology was utilized to superimpose her face onto the body of British influencer Jara Patel in the video.
The term 'deepfake' is derived from 'deep learning,' a subset of machine learning. Deepfake technology is based on artificial neural networks and employs multiple layers (hence, 'deep').
It creates content that appears authentic, even though it may not be. The first notable instance of deepfake technology emerged in 2017 when a Reddit user created numerous deepfake videos.
The creation of deepfake videos involves two networks: an encoder and a decoder. The encoder reads the original content and transfers it to the decoder network, which generates the fake video with a different face.
This process results in a video where the face has been replaced, while the rest of the video remains the same.
