3-Member Committee of HRD to visit JNU Today

Amid of continuous protests following the increase in fees at Jawaharlal Nehru University, on Friday, a three-member committee of the Ministry of Human Resource Development will visit the institute to find solutions in view of the situation with the students.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad protested on Thursday over the issue of fee hike in JNU. The ABVP had planned a march from Mandi House to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) office, but the Delhi Police stopped the students near the Parliament Street police station. The police detained 160 students, including three divyangs and some students. The ABVP also demanded the resignation of MHRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, that the high-level committee set up by the ministry be dissolved. In March, ABVP state minister Siddharth Yadav, JNU unit president Durgesh Kumar, unit minister Manish Jangid were also present. ABVP state minister Siddharth Yadav demanded withdrawal of the increased hostel fees.

DU students and teachers have also supported the students of JNU. Some DU students also shouted slogans in support of JNU students on Wednesday and Thursday at the Auts faculty. The students said that the JNU administration should immediately withdraw the increased fees.
