Earlier, the Kolkata High Court had also issued summons against him.

Shashi Tharoor had attacked the BJP and said that if the BJP wins the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, then the country will become 'Hindu Pakistan'.

While addressing an event in Thiruvananthapuram, he had said that if the Bharatiya Janata Party wins, it will write a new constitution, which will lead the country on the path of becoming Pakistan where the rights of minorities are not respected.

There was a big ruckus in the corridors regarding Shashi Tharoor's statement. After the BJP's attacker, the Congress too was defeated by Tharoor's statement. The Congress had instructed its leaders to speak thoughtfully.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala had said that in the last four years, the Modi government has created an atmosphere of division, bigotry, hatred, intolerance and polarization. Congress, on the other hand, has been an advocate of India's plurality of civilization, diversity, harmony among various religions and sects.
