7 lakh Posts are Vacant in Different Departments of the Central Government

There is talk of unemployment all around. In such a situation, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh informed in Rajya Sabha that as of March 1, 2018, about 7 lakh posts are vacant in different departments of the Central Government. There are 5,74,289 vacancies in Group C, 89,638 vacancies in Group B and 19,896 posts in Group A. The total number of vacancies is 6,88,823. He said that in 2019-20, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is going to do the restoration for 1,05,338 posts.

Jitendra Singh said that during 2017-18, notifications were issued for 1,27,573 posts under Centralized Employment Notification (CENs) by the Ministry of Railways and Railway Recruitment Board (RRB). Apart from this, five CENs were issued for Group C and Level-1 posts in 2018-19, through which 1,56,138 vacancies have been reported. In total 4,08,591 vacancies are in the process of filling.

Jitendra Singh also said that in order to speed up the recruitment process, the interviews for several vacancies were discontinued from 1 January 2016. Most tests are being taken online. He also said that there is a large number of reserved backlog vacancies for SC, ST and OBC categories.
