The Trump administration does not want to topple India's security capabilities. This information has been given by the American officer. They acknowledged that there would be a case-by-case analysis, where punitive measures under the CAATSA Act could be applied to countries purchasing important military weapons from Russia.

The Countering American Advertisers Through Sanctions (CAATSA) Act was enacted in the year 2017. Under this, restrictions can be imposed on Iran, Russia and North Korea. Under this, there is a provision to punish America's enemy countries. If an enemy country of America makes a deal then this law applies to them. America's enemy countries include Russia. It prohibits significant defense purchases from Russia and in doing so imposes sanctions on the country concerned.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russia's President Vladimir Putin made a deal to buy the S-400 in 2018 after a long talk. Explain that in this case India wanted a concession from Katsa law and it was rejected by the US. Regarding the deal, the official said, "I know that India has expressed reasonable concern."

In 2016, the US named India as its largest defense partner. It is worth mentioning that earlier the US had said that it is helping many countries including India to avoid actions under Katsa. The US said that such a large purchase comes under the purview of Katsa. Action was taken against Turkey under this law.
