China Reports First Human Death from Monkey B Virus Infection: Report

A veterinarian who was confirmed as China's first human infection case with Monkey B virus (BV) has died. Meanwhile, a person infected with the monkeypox virus reported in Texas, US. The report, published by Global Times, also cited the English platform of China's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The veterinarian, infected with the new virus, visited several hospitals for treatment but died on 27 May. Those who came in close contact with him are safe. Apart from this, it has also been told in the report that before this no case of BV virus was reported in China.

According to the Global Times, in early March, the 53-year-old doctor had operated on two dead monkeys, after which his health started deteriorating. The said veterinarian worked for an organization doing research on non-human primates. It is noteworthy that this monkey B virus was first identified in 1932. Monkey B virus, an alphaherpesvirus enzootic found in African macaques of the genus Macaca. It is worth noting that it also has a very high capacity to spread infection. It can spread from person to person.

Rare case of Monkeypox virus reported in Texas:

A rare case of a person infected with the monkeypox virus reported in the US state of Texas, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has said. In a press release, the CDC said, "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed on July 15 a case of human monkeypox in a US resident who recently traveled from Nigeria to the United States."
