China has Deep Intentions behind Border Dispute, India will not Desolate Away from Retaliation

Nidhi Hakla

Today, when the whole world is surrounded by a serious humanitarian crisis, it is not very difficult to know what the power politics of China can mean.  There are many reasons why China is apprehensive of such activities which India cannot tolerate.  If China's intentions are investigated, there are several reasons.

India's Infrastructural Activities with LAC: The immediate cause of this Chinese upheaval is the infrastructural development activities that India is holding near LAC (Line of Actual Control) after the Doklam crisis to which China has objected.  Significantly, China has objections to the bridge being constructed by India near LAC in Ladakh.  The Galwan Valley, where China has insisted on building bunkers, is located at LAC and near it, India has almost completed the construction of a 235 km long road of extreme strategic importance from the Shiok River to Daulat Beg Oldi.

It is noteworthy that Daulat Beg is near the area of Aksai Chin of Oldi Depsang Plateau.  India has already landed cargo C130 and C17 vessels at the airbase.  The fear of losing its jurisdiction over disputed areas is haunting China.  This construction of the border road has been frustrated by the Government of India and especially the Ministry of Defence with the sensitivity with which China has been frustrated.  India's active involvement in building bridges, airstrips at strategic sites and increasing the patrolling for surveillance vigilance along the Indo-China border have led China to face unilateral outrage.  China believes that this is changing the status quo by India in the region, but the reason for the dispute in the region is the insistence on changing the map of China's Himalayan region.
