Tragic Incident: 10 Lives Lost and Over 57 Injured in Bus Accident Carrying Vaishno Devi Pilgrims

On Tuesday morning, a tragic accident occurred as a bus traveling from Amritsar to Katra plunged into a deep gorge, claiming the lives of 10 individuals. Numerous people also sustained injuries in this unfortunate incident. 

The injured individuals have been promptly transported to the hospital, while the identities of the deceased are yet to be determined.

The bus, which was carrying 75 passengers, was on its route from Amritsar to Katra when it was hit.

Bus was carrying excessive number of passengers

According to Jammu SSP Chandan Kohli, the bus involved in the accident was carrying an excessive number of passengers, surpassing the prescribed limit. The police have confirmed that all ten individuals who lost their lives in the incident were originally from Bihar.

Everyone has been evacuated. The rescue mission is nearly finished. An SDRF crew is also on the scene. The tragic incident occurred while they were en route to Katra, where they were attending a 'mundan' ceremony for a child. 

They planned to do the yatra to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine after the'mundan' ritual, they added.

Those who were injured were taken to a hospital in Jammu for treatment.

J&K Lieutenant Governor learned casualties about the incident

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha conveyed his distress upon learning about the casualties in the accident. He stated that he has instructed the district administration to extend all essential support and aid to the injured individuals.

"I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in a bus accident in Jhajjar Kotli, Jammu." My heartfelt condolences go out to the lost families, and I wish the injured a swift recovery. 

A tweet from the Office of Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor stated that the district administration has been instructed to ensure that the injured receive all possible assistance and medical treatment.

On Monday, a tractor trolley slid into a gorge in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district. 

Eight individuals were killed in the tragedy, including six women and two minors, while 26 others were injured.
