PM Modi Set To Be First Indian Prime Minister To Visit Greece in 40 Years On August 25

Prime Minister Modi will meet with Greek PM Mitsotakis to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, he will also meet with business people from both countries.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a historic visit to Greece on August 25, becoming the first head of government to do so in the last four decades.

According to an official statement, Prime Minister Modi has accepted an invitation to visit Greece from his Greek colleague, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, following the end of the BRICS meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa. 

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India and Greece have deep historical ties that have been strengthened in recent times through collaboration in various sectors such as maritime transportation, defense, trade, investments, and cultural exchanges.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to hold talks with Prime Minister Mitsotakis in order to improve the bilateral partnership. 

In addition, he will meet with business executives from both nations and interact with the Indian community in Greece.

Prior to his trip to Greece, Prime Minister Modi will attend the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24. 

The summit is significant because it is the first time the BRICS leaders have met in person since 2019. It will provide an opportunity to assess the progress of BRICS programs and identify opportunities for future collaboration.

Along with attending the BRICS Summit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to meet with numerous other South African officials.

BRICS Summit and Modi's Attendance

He will attend a special session called 'BRICS - Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogue' following the BRICS Summit.

There had been speculation that Prime Minister Modi would attend the BRICS Summit digitally. 

However, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, denied these claims, stressing that Modi's attendance was never in doubt and highlighting that the planned phone contact between President Ramaphosa and Modi had nothing to do with these rumors.
