Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has got a big relief from the Supreme Court in the money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam. The court has granted him interim bail till June 1 with some conditions.

The court has said that during the bail period, Kejriwal will not make any comment related to his role in this case. He is not allowed to talk to any witness or influence the case in any way. Also, he will not have access to any official file related to the case.

The Supreme Court said that Arvind Kejriwal will not go to the CM Office or Delhi Secretariat. Kejriwal will sign official documents only after getting approval from the Lieutenant Governor (LG).

Kejriwal is going to surrender on June 2. As per the Supreme Court order, now the bail bond should be filed directly before the jail superintendent, which will eliminate the need to go to the trial court.

Court Has Granted Bail Under Following Conditions

  • Kejriwal will have to deposit a bail bond of Rs 50,000 and the same amount as security.

  • He (Kejriwal) will not be able to go to the Chief Minister's Office or the Delhi Secretariat.

  • He (Kejriwal) is bound by his own statement that he will not sign any official document unless it is necessary to obtain approval/concurrence from the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

  • He (Kejriwal) will not make any comments regarding his role in the current matter.

  • He will not interact with any witnesses, and he will not have access to any official files related to the case.

When Was Kejriwal Arrested?

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 21 in connection with the Delhi liquor scam. Before the arrest, the ED had issued him nine summons for questioning in the case. However, Kejriwal did not appear on any summons.

The central investigating agency alleges that he was the main conspirator of the scam and was directly involved in demanding bribes from liquor traders.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has rejected these allegations and said there will be no leadership change in Delhi and Chief Minister Kejriwal will continue to rule from jail.
