Former Union Minister Ramchandra Prasad (RCP) Singh, who resigned from Janata Dal (United) (JDU) after the party asked for an explanation regarding allegations of corruption against him, is scheduled to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today in New Delhi at 12:30 pm.
RCP Singh faced corruption allegations, for which the JDU had issued a show cause notice and demanded an explanation.
He was accused of amassing a large amount of wealth through corrupt means during his time with the JDU, spanning from 2013 to 2022, including the purchase of 40 bighas of land in two Nalanda blocks.
It was alleged that he had not disclosed these assets in his election affidavit and had concealed them from the JDU as well.
Additionally, he was accused of purchasing land by using his wife's name as a front.
Following a notice from the party regarding corruption allegations, RCP Singh resigned from JDU and remarked, "Nitish Kumar will never become the Prime Minister, not even in seven lifetimes". He further criticized the JD-U as a "sinking ship".
RCP Singh resigned as Union Minister on July 6th, as the party refused to grant him a third consecutive term in the Rajya Sabha.
RCP Singh's relationship with Nitish Kumar soured after he accepted the ministerial position without the Chief Minister's approval and due to his perceived proximity to BJP. He was also asked to relinquish his post as the party chief.
Sources suggest that Nitish Kumar had been dissatisfied with RCP Singh since he joined the central government without the Chief Minister's approval.
A former IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Singh developed a close relationship with Nitish Kumar during his central deputation and was regarded as the party's second most influential figure after the Chief Minister.
