WTC: The World Test Championship final for the 2021 to 2023 season is scheduled to be held from June 7th to 11th June 2023 in England at The Oval.

Australia has booked their place in the WTC finals of this season while India needs to win the last Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in Ahmedabad, which has started from today, i.e. Thursday, 9th March 2023 at Shri Narendra Modi Stadium.

The series between IND Vs AUS has been surrounded with controversies because of the rank-turning pitches and Indore also was rated poor by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

The Holkar Stadium also got three demerit points. All three Test matches of the BGT 2023 series were finished inside three days.

Niranjan Shah wants ICC to stop hosting World Test Championship Tournament

The former secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Niranjan Shah has a solution for the red ball matches which are being ended in just three days.

Shah said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should stop hosting the World Test Championship (WTC) tournament because he believes that this tournament (WTC) has taken all the good things and charm away from the traditional format of Test match cricket.

People love watching the red ball format and the players also love playing it. Many people even believe that a test match is the pinnacle of cricket and every format has started from the red ball format.

The viewers enjoy it when the batters score runs in tough and challenging situations. The audience also celebrates when the bowlers pick up the wickets with the red cherry.

But off late, the Test matches have lost their spice because they aren’t played in the normal way. India leads the series by a margin of 2-1.

The home side won the matches in Nagpur and New Delhi while the Aussies seized the 3rd Test match of the BGT series in Indore by nine wickets.

Shah is concerned because all three Test matches between IND Vs AUS ended inside three days and the 1st Test match between South Africa and West Indies too ended in that fashion.

Why Test cricket needs a Tournament like World Cup?

Niranjan Shah said that if the red ball games end in a short spam like three days then it is a sign of worry.

He even said that a Test match is a contest between the two Test-playing nations which helps the countries to retain this traditional format.

The world cup tournaments are played in the fifty-over format and shortest format as well. So why the ICC needs to host the World Test championship event?

The die heart followers of this game will not like to see a wicket falling after every delivery bowled that too in each over.

Shah said that the ICC should appoint a neutral curator for Test matches and he also felt that the cricket administration would not appreciate this move because no one will like an outsider to come to your country and make a pitch for a Test match.

Even the batting coach of the Indian cricket team, Vikram Rathour, agreed that the men in the blue side are under pressure to reach the finals of the World Test Championship tournament.

If Team India wins the fourth Test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series then they will reach the WTC Finals in 2023 for the second time in a row.
