WTC Final 2023: The Indian Cricket team will play the World Test Championship final in 2023 after the men in the blue side won the red ball series against Australia.
India won the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 by a margin of 2-1 and also sealed their berth for the WTC Final 2023 for the second time in a row.
The Blues under the leadership of Virat Kohli also made it to the 2021 WTC Final as well.
But Team India lost that ICC mega event in the red ball format to New Zealand. Shreyas Iyer, the middle order batter of the Indian team has been out of some cricketing action since he had some back issue.
He missed the three-match one-day international series against New Zealand in January. He was also out of the team in the Test matches played at New Delhi and Indore.
While in the last match of the red ball series in Ahmedabad, Shreyas couldn’t bat in the last innings of India and missed the fifty overs series against Australia as well.
Iyer has reported to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after he decides not to go for back surgery.
The World Test Championship Final in 2023 will be played from 7th June 2023 and 12th June 2023 has been kept as the reserve day for that marquee ICC mega event of the Test format.
According to the media reports, the middle-order batter, Shreyas Iyer will take an injection and the National Cricket Academy will assess his fitness and see how long Iyer takes to recover.
So till then, the Mumbai Born batter will stay in the Academy at Bengaluru. Shreyas has met some experts and they say that the operation can be postponed.
Shreyas Iyer now is out of the whole season of the Indian Premier League. He will not lead the Kolkata Knight Riders team in this season of the TATA IPL 2023 and the KKR management has named Nitish Rana as their new skipper for the 16th edition.
