Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer, who started his Test career with a century, is in great form these days. In all three formats, whenever he got a chance to take the field, he managed to leave his mark by batting with a bang.
Once again he did so while playing the first day-night Test match of his career against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. In the first innings of the match, Shreyas played scorching innings of 92 runs in 98 balls and missed the second Test century of his career. But when he got a chance to bat again in the second innings of the same match, he once again scored a half-century.
In the second innings, Iyer went lbw off Lasith Embuldeniya, scoring 67 off 87 balls. During this, he hit 9 fours. With this, he has become the first Indian and the fifth batsman in the world to score fifty in both innings of the Day-Night Test.
Before Iyer, Dwayne Bravo of West Indies, Steve Smith of Australia and Marnus Labuschagne (twice) have done this feat. Dwayne Bravo became the first player in the world to achieve this double feat in 2016. He scored 87 and 116 runs in both the innings of the Day-Night Test against Pakistan in Dubai. At the same time, Australia's legendary batsman Steve Smith played innings of 130 and 63 against Pakistan in the Day-Night Test in 2016.
At the same time, the current world number one Test batsman Marnus Labuschagne has done this feat twice. He played an innings of 143 and 50 runs against New Zealand in the year 2019 while facing the Pink Ball. At the same time, in the year 2021, he played innings of 103 and 51 against England. Now the fifth name in this list has been recorded by Shreyas Iyer with innings of 92 and 67 runs.
Shreyas Iyer has reached equal to Virat Kohli in terms of scoring the most 50-run scores in Day-Night Tests. Virat Kohli has one century and one half-century to his name in Day-Night Tests. Virat played an innings of 136 runs against Bangladesh in Kolkata. Apart from this, he scored 74 runs in the Day-Night Test against Australia in Adelaide.
