Shreyas Iyer Recovers from Injury, Set to Play in IPL Phase 2

Ahead of the Phase 2 of the IPL, Delhi Capitals has received good news on Thursday as middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer has recovered from a shoulder injury and is set to return to competitive action. The National Cricket Academy (NCA) has declared him fit to return to competitive cricket. He is ready to play in Phase-2 of IPL-2021. Just after the IPL, the T20 World Cup is also scheduled to be played in the UAE. Iyer may also return to the Indian team on the basis of his good performance in the IPL.

Delhi Capitals made it to the finals for the first time in 2020 under the leadership of Iyer. Rishabh Pant captained the team in 2021 after his absence. The IPL was halted after multiple Covid-19 cases inside the bio-bubble.. Iyer may have become fit, he is finding it difficult to get the captaincy of the team this season. Delhi's management can retain Pant as the captain for this entire season.

Iyer played 22 ODIs and 29 T20 Internationals:

26-year-old Iyer has played 22 ODIs and 29 T20 Internationals for India so far. During the one-day match against England in Pune on 23 March, he suffered a shoulder injury, for which he had to undergo an operation in Britain. Meanwhile, BCCI sources said, "Yes, NCA has issued a fit certificate to Shreyas. He stayed in Bengaluru at the NCA for a week and his final assessment has happened a few days back. Based on all medical and physical parameters, he is now ready to play matches. This couldn't have happened at a better time with India's T20 World Cup campaign in two months time."
