ODI Asia Cup 2023: The Asian Cricket Council hasn’t confirmed the venue for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 which would be played in the fifty-overs format later this year.

The men in green side, Pakistan is the host of this year’s event. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not want their players to play in the arch-rivalling country because of security fears.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had also threatened to boycott the ODI World Cup 2023 which would be played in India in the month of October and November 2023.

But to host an event like the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan has a lot of challenges. The suggestion made by PCB will be also rejected because of the logistical issues that might also arise.

The ACC members and officials will take a decision in the coming few days. This year Asia Cup will be played in the fifty-overs format due to the ICC World Cup which also be played in that same format.

In this dilemma of being the next host country of this year Asia Cup 2023, one country is ready to host this event even on a shorter notice period.

ODI Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lankan Cricket Board is ready to be the new host

According to the reports, Sri Lanka is ready to serve as the host country of this Asia Cup 2023 tournament of the fifty-overs format. But still, the Asian Cricket Council has to approve this decision.

The other boards are with the BCCI and the Indian Board had also invited the Asian Cricket Council members with the Associate members for a talk during the TATA IPL 2023 finals.

In the next seven to ten days, an emergency meeting will be called via personal or virtual.

In this meeting, the future of this tournament shall be discussed and the ACC members can also share their point of view as well.

In this meeting, some points like logistics, financial planning and the broadcasters will be touched upon.

The matches of this year’s ODI Asia Cup 2023 will start at 1.30 PM according to Indian Standard Time (IST) and end around 9.30 PM IST. The players will also have to travel a lot.

So the feasibility will be another issue which will be discussed by the ACC members in the upcoming meeting.

The Asian Cricket Council members should also talk about more options like other countries hosting this year’s ODI Asia Cup 2023 tournament in that meeting.
