Mohammed Shami has been India's key player across the formats. Still, the management hasn't picked the fiery pace bowler in their main squad despite being a vital member for T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Jasprit is out of this event due to a recurring back injury and now team India mull over the replacement of their premier fast bowler.

This pace bowler has done well for the men in the blue side in all three formats. Shami’s selection would be vital, especially when Jasprit Bumrah is out of this squad due to injury.

He is in the reserved players' list with Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar. Mohammed Siraj has also been drafted into the team as the replacement for Bumrah.

T20 World Cup 2022: Shami is an ideal replacement for Jasprit in the playing XI

Shami’s inclusion might do the trick for India. Even though Shami doesn't have an excellent record in the shortest format and he has not played much of T20 cricket.

But the selectors should have seen his performance in the TATA IPL 2022 season. He bowled well for the title-winning team, Gujarat Titans. The pacer had picked up 20 wickets from just 16 games, and he has been ranked sixth on the overall list.

Shami would certainly be in the playing XI of India for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Shami was picked for the T20I series against Australia. India played a three-match series of the shortest format against the current World Cup champion team after the Asia Cup 2022.

But Shami had to miss the whole series because he was Covid-19 positive and he also missed the three match T20I series against South Africa.

T20 World Cup 2022: Shami should play practice matches of T20 World Cup

India will play two warm-up matches against Australia and New Zealand before they take on the arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, 23rd October 2022 in Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Shami should play these two matches so that he regains his fitness and form back. Shami can also get his lost momentum and rhythm back by playing these two warm-up matches of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

India has two more options if Shami doesn’t show great promise in the warm-up matches. Deepak Chahar has been in a decent knick with the ball.

He bowled well in the three-match T20I series against South Africa and he also can bat down the order much like Bhuvneshwar Kumar. But including Shami might solve the death over bowling woes. India has leaked runs at the backend of the T20I innings.

Chahar is also part of the ODI team which will be led by Shikhar Dhawan. The three-match series of the fifty overs format starts today i.e. Oct 06 at Lucknow.

Mohammed Siraj might be the last option for India as a replacement for Bumrah. Siraj looked rusty in the last match of the T20I series against The Proteas and that is why he should play the ODI series.

The only concern for Team India in including Shami and Siraj is that they both don’t have enough game time. Both these pace bowlers can join the rest of the Indian team in Australia after the ODI series is over. Rohit Sharma and other members of Team India have left for Australia today i.e. on 6 October 2022.
