But despite being the organizers of the best T20 and Franchise league, the men in blue have won just one edition of this T20I competition.
West Indies is the only side to win two T20 World Cup tournaments till now. The Windies won the event in Sri Lanka in 2012 and in 2016 in India.
But so far, no host country has won this tournament even once. Now Australia will be eyeing to script history by winning the T20 World Cup for the second back-to-back time and be the first host country to win this ICC mega event Down Under.
This list will start from the first-ever edition in 2007, and it will go on until the last edition of 2021, which was played in the United Arab Emirates.

2007 – India became the first champions of the T20 World Cup in 2007. The young side under MS Dhoni proved the critics wrong and won the tournament by defeating the arch-rivals Pakistan by five wickets at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg in South Africa.

2009 – England hosted this tournament for the first time, and Pakistan became the second champion of the T20 World Cup.
The 2009 T20 World Cup final was played at the iconic stadium of Lords Cricket Ground in London, and the men in green beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets to clinch their first-ever title of the shortest format.
2010 – The third edition of the T20 World Cup was held in the Caribbean. Under the leadership of Paul Collingwood, England won their first and only title of the shortest format.
England won their final against Australia by seven wickets at Kensington Oval in Bridge Town.
2012 – The Lankan Tigers hosted this edition of the T20 World Cup in their island country, and they also reached the final, hoping to be the first host country to win this ICC mega event.
But the Windies were a better team that night, and West Indies won the final match of that edition by 36 runs. The 2012 edition final was played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
2014 – Sri Lanka made it to the finals again in the 2014 edition of the T20 World Cup, which was held in Bangladesh.
After losing in the final against West Indies in 2012, the Lankan Tigers under Lasith Malinga defeated India by six wickets. The final of that edition was played in Sher–E-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka.
2016 – India hosted this edition of the T20 World Cup. West Indies became the first and only team in the history of this tournament to win the T20 World Cup twice.
The Windies defeated England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Carlos Brathwaite smashed Ben Stokes for four back-to-back sixes to win the finals.
2021 – The T20 World Cup was scheduled to be played every two years. But because of the COVID-19 Virus, the tournament wasn't played in 2020, and India also lost the hosting rights of this T20 event.
Last year, the United Arab Emirates hosted this ICC mega event, and Australia, under the captaincy of Aaron Finch, clinched their maiden title. The Aussies defeated the Kiwis in Dubai International Stadium by eight wickets.
