T20 World Cup: Sunil Gavaskar Pointed out Biggest Concern for India

IND Vs AUS T20I Series: The men in the blue side had started the three-match T20I series against Australia with a loss in Mohali. The Indian bowlers failed to defend a total of 208 runs, which is said to be a par total in the shortest format. Sunil Gavaskar pointed out the biggest concern for the Indian team ahead of this series and T20 WC.

The world champions Australia has started the three-match series on a winning note. They chased a challenging score of 208 runs and handed a four-wicket loss to the men in the blue side.

India batted first after the Aussies won the toss and elected to bowl in Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Kannur Lokesh Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya batted extremely well to take India to a challenging total of 208 runs.

KL Rahul scored 55 runs, Suryakumar Yadav scored 46 runs, while Hardik Pandya was unbeaten on 71 runs.

But poor bowling in the death and three dropped catches hurt the home side in the end.

Indian legendary batter and former skipper Sunil Gavaskar pointed out the big issues for the men in blue ahead of this series and, most importantly, the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, which will be played in October 2022.

India will start their T20 WC campaign against the arch-rivals Pakistan at MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) on Sunday, 23rd October 2022

T20 World Cup: Bhuvneshwar not delivering in death overs is a real concern, says Gavaskar

The main reason why India lost the first T20I match against Australia yesterday was because of their death over bowling. The men in blue side are too dependent on Jasprit Bumrah for this role, which is why he is a key member of Team India in the T20I setup.

Another concern for the home side is that Bhuvi, the experienced bowler, hasn't been delivering in the death overs.

India was also knocked out of the super 4 rounds of the Asia Cup 2022 for a similar reason. Bhuvi gave away 16 runs in the second last over, which decided the fate of the first T20I match.

Kumar bowled too many full tosses in trying to bowl a perfect Yorker. Now India can drop Bhuvi and bring Boom Boom Bumrah for the last two T20Is matches of this series.

T20 World Cup: Experienced Bhuvi is bowling too many expensive spells

Sunil Gavaskar said that bowler like Bhuvneshwar Kumar is bowling too many expensive spells, which is not a good sign for the men in blue side, especially ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

He also said that when Bhuvi leaked runs this way, India has lost those games. In the matches against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the first T20I, Bhuvi gave three runs per delivery. An experienced bowler like him shouldn’t do that at the international level.

T20 World Cup: Harshal and Bumrah need more game time: Sunil Gavaskar

Harshal Patel too went for plenty of runs in his comeback match. Despite leaking 49 runs, Sunny Ji has defended the young pace bowler. The little master said that Harshal looked rusty in this game, and he is coming from a long break due to the injury.

Patel must have some overs under his belt before the ICC Mega event in Australia.

The management can think of playing Harshal and Bumrah in the first two One-Day International series against South Africa to get their form, momentum and rhythm going.

The last two T20Is will be played on Friday at Nagpur and Sunday in Hyderabad. Then the men in the blue side will gear up for the three T20I matches and that many One-Day International matches against the Proteas team, South Africa.
