Rohit Sharma will lead Team India in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia next month. In October, India will commence their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The BCCI national selectors named a 15-member team for the T20 World Cup 2022 on Monday (September 12), along with four standbys for the competition. Fit-again pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and death overs specialist Harshal Patel were both included to the 15-man India team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, which begins on October 16.
Bumrah, who had a back issue, and Harshal, who had a side strain, have undergone intensive rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, and the BCCI medical panel has cleared them to play in the premier series. Pacer Avesh Khan and leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi were both beaten by senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to make the World Cup squad.
Avesh had very little chance of cutting once Harshal was healthy and available, especially with a death overs economy rate of 18 in recent times. If there was one player who would feel cheated, it would be youthful Bishnoi, who was superb against Pakistan in the Asia Cup Super 4s game, outperforming experienced wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
While Chahal was an obvious option, Bishnoi's competition with veteran Ravichandran Ashwin for the third spinner's berth was always fierce. Two leg-spinners would not have offered variety, but Ashwin's presence on large Australian grounds, as well as his ability to pull the ball away from left-handers, took precedence.
Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh
