T20 World Cup 2022: Ricky Pointing Wants This Player as Next Australia Captain in Shortest Format

T20 World Cup 2022: Australia has lost a golden opportunity of winning the T20 World Cup 2022. The Aussies won the T20 WC in 2021 in the United Arab Emirates. But this time, there will be a new champion. This time, Australia didn't qualify for the semi-finals, and Ricky Pointing wants a new leader in the shortest format.

The defending champions of the T20 World Cup, Australia, have not qualified for the semi-finals in this edition of the T20 WC. The Aussies played well after losing to New Zealand in the first game of this tournament.

They won the matches against Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan. But their match against England was a washout at the MCG.

Australia wanted Sri Lanka to win the last league match of the T20 World Cup 2022 against England. But Jos Buttler and his men, who also had a shocking loss to Ireland, convincingly won that match, and they have put their counterpart, Australia, out of this tournament.

New Zealand, Pakistan, India and England are the four teams playing the semi-final round of this year’s T20 World Cup 2022.

Will this T20 WC be the last one for Finchy?

This year's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia has not been ideal for the Aussies. So there might be some changes to this T20I setup of the Baggy Greenside.

With Aaron Finch having already retired from the fifty-overs format, will this be his last T20 WC event? Pat Cummins has been appointed as the new ODI skipper and is also the Test captain of Australia.

Pat Cummins will be the leader for the 2023 fifty-overs World Cup in India, and Cricket Australia doesn't want David Warner in any leadership roles after the sandpaper saga in 2017 in South Africa.

According to the reports, Australia's legendary all-rounder Shane Watson has also slammed the Cricket Australia board for not involving David Warner as the captain for this tournament.

Ricky Pointing wants this player as next T20I Captain of Australia

Ricky Pointing was one of the best captains of the Australian team in the International cricket arena. Australia has won five fifty overs World Cups, and Punter has two won of them.

He is even the coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and the team has performed quite well in the TATA IPL 2022 edition.

After an early exit in the T20 World Cup 2022 event, Ricky Pointing wants a replacement for Aaron Finch, who led the team to their first-ever T20 WC title last year in Dubai.

Punter wants Glenn Maxwell to be the next leader of Australia in the shortest format. The former skipper said that Glenn Maxwell would now be an obvious choice as the full-time T20I skipper of the Baggy Green side because he brings so much to the table as a quality spin-bowling all-rounder.

Aaron Finch missed the final league match against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2022 due to a hamstring injury, and Australia will not play any T20I matches soon. So Finchy said he would not be able to make it as more matches of the shortest format are played because the T20Is is now a popular form of cricket.

Maxi- An ideal choice as a Captain

Aaron Finch has done a fabulous job as the Aussie skipper, and to keep up that good work done by Finchy, Punter feels that Maxi is an ideal choice as the skipper of the shortest format for Australia.

Glenn Maxwell has also captained a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL).

In the Big Show, Glenn Maxwell has the experience of captaining a team in the shortest format. Maxi is a seasoned player in the T20 International arena and franchise cricket.

Now he is the leading man for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), especially after the retirement of AB de Villiers. Pointing also said that Pat Cummins could not be the skipper of the shortest format, and he was surprised when Cummins was given the ODI captaincy.

To manage his workload, Cummins often takes rest in the fifty-overs format. So Glenn Maxwell is an ideal choice and replacement for Aaron Finch in the leadership duties of the T20 Cricket of Australia.

The former world cup winning skipper, Ricky Pointing, backs Glenn Maxwell to do well as a captain, player and all-rounder of the Australian team.
