ODI World Cup 2023: In the history of the ODI World Cup, there are 10 captains who have won this tournament and just two skippers, Clive Lloyd from the West Indies and Ricky Ponting of Australia are the only ones to win this event twice.

ODI World Cup 2023: Cricket World Cup in all three formats is an important tournament for all cricket nations. Winning this ICC mega event is the ultimate goal for all the participating teams.

The Cricket World Cups in 1975, 1979 and 1983 were held in England and both the opening World Cups were won by the West Indies team.

Clive Lloyd was the first cricket captain to win 2 two World Cup Trophies and in 2007,  Australia's Ricky Ponting has also become the second captain to win two World Cups under his legacy.

In the first-ever Cricket World Cup of 1975, 8 cricket teams participated.  The Indian team was part of that Cricket World Cup

In the first and second World Cups, the captain of the Indian team was Srinivas  Venkataraghavan. The Indian team won its first World Cup in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev.

Today, in this segment, we will name all the 10 captains who won the ODI World Cup:

1. Clive Lloyd (West Indies)

The West Indies team has won the first two World Cups under the captaincy of Clive Lloyd in 1975 and 1979. The Windies defeated Australia in the first World Cup final and England in the second final.

2. Kapil Dev (India)

Kapil was a famous all-rounder of his time. Under his captaincy, India won the first World Cup. This World Cup victory of the Indian team is considered to be the most difficult because the West Indies team was a very strong team at that time but still, the Indian team stopped the West Indies team from doing so.  

3. Allan Border (Australia)

This was the first cricket World Cup win for the Australian team. They were World Cup winners of the 1987 ODI WC.

India and Pakistan were co-hosts of that World Cup. Allan Border-led Australia won this World Cup by defeating England in the final.

4. Imran Khan (Pakistan)

Australia and New Zealand were co-hosts of this World Cup. Pakistan won their first World Cup in 1992 by defeating England in the final match.

5. Arjuna Ranatunga (Sri Lanka)

This World Cup was co-hosted by Pakistan and India in 1996.  Sri Lanka won their first World Cup by defeating Australia.

6. Steve Waugh (Australia)

This was Australia's second World Cup title in 1999. Australia defeated Pakistan in the final played in England. 

7. Ricky Ponting (Australia)

After Clive Lloyd, Ricky Ponting is the only captain to have won two Cricket World Cups as a captain in 2003 and 2007.  Overall it was Australia's third and fourth World Cup trophy.

8. MS Dhoni (India)

MS Dhoni is a popular figure in the cricket world. He is the only Indian captain to have won the ICC Cricket ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy. India won their second World Cup title in 2011 under Mahi. 

India defeated Sri Lanka in the final played in Mumbai.  Every Indian cricket lover will never forget that six hit by Dhoni.

9. Michael Clarke (Australia)

Clarke is the fourth Australian captain to have won the World Cup in 2015.  Overall it was Australia's 5th Cricket World Cup. 

Australia defeated New Zealand to win the 5th World Cup title. Australia has become the most successful country having won 5 World Cups.

India and West Indies have also won the World Cup 2 times each.

10. Eoin Morgan (England)

England won their first World Cup under Morgan's captaincy in 2019. England defeated New Zealand in the Super Over at Lords.
