Jadeja hit an unbeaten 175-run knock to assist India record a huge first-innings total of 574/8 (declared). According to the Since Independence report, on Saturday, Day 2 of the current first Test between India and Sri Lanka at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Amritsar, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja continued his amazing run with the willow. Jadeja smashed the great Kapil Dev's long-standing record with his unbroken 175.

Jadeja had three hundred-run partnerships: 104 with Rishabh Pant, 130 with Ravichandran Ashwin, and 103* with Mohammed Shami. The innings ended after Rohit Sharma summoned his men in minutes well before tea break because Shami was blowing from a wayward toss.

Sri Lanka had been greatly frustrated by the ninth-wicket stand, with a botched run out costing them dearly. Shami was cautious in the early stages of his innings, scoring none of the partnership's first 53 runs. Jadeja was unconcerned and clinical as he passed 150, attacking with planned accuracy.

Overnight on 45, Jadeja discovered the going to be easy the next morning as well. Sri Lanka was handicapped by the absence of Lahiru Kumara, who left the field halfway on the first evening and is projected to be absent for the encounter. Sri Lanka managed to suppress a free-flowing duo in the absence of its frontline enforcer.

Even though Jadeja waited to dismiss the poor balls, he was joined by an ecstatic R Ashwin. As he sped away to a fifty, later discovered a lot more delivery on the drivable length and whacked them crisply past cover or straight down the ground. When Sri Lanka miscalculated in line, going too wide or on his pads, Jadeja earned his share of boundary balls, permitting him to move towards a hundred with relative ease.

With the 130-run stand, the duo also ensured that India scored 400 runs in their opening innings for the very first time in 22 Tests.

As Jadeja approached his huge amount in the latter portion of the session, Sri Lanka eventually discovered a way to cross through at the other end. Sri Lanka earned benefits from the short boy strategy with Suranga Lakmal, when Ashwin edged a swing through to the wicketkeeper.

However, Jadeja's century came soon after India had taken the lead. Jayant Yadav scored only nine runs before being caught at slip by Vishwa Fernando. However, Jadeja found an excellent ally in Shami to help India post a big first-innings total.
