The series loss against Bangladesh is a massive concern for India ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. After the 2015 one-day international series loss under the leadership of captain cool MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma has joined the list after the visitors lost the second match of the three-match series.

India should avoid a whitewash in the third and final ODI match. The 3rd one-day international will be played on Saturday, 10th December 2022.

India has won 30, and Bangladesh has won just seven matches from overall 38 ODIs played. Today, in this segment, we shall relive all the seven losses India has faced against The Bangla Tigers.

2004

India's first loss in a one-day international match against Bangladesh came in 2004 at Dhaka. The Blues lost the second match of the series by 15 runs. Bangladesh batted first and posted 229/9 in their fifty-overs quota.

The Tigers reached this score mainly because of Aftab Ahmed's 67-run knock. The visitors did well with the ball.

Murali Kartik picked up a five-wicket haul. But the Indian batters couldn't chase 230 runs as they were dismissed for just 214.

Sridharan Sriram’s 67-run knock and Mohammad Kaif’s 49 runs weren’t enough to save India from their first loss against Bangladesh.

2007

Bangladesh won their second ODI game against India at ICC World Cup in 2007. This was the most shocking loss that Team India had faced.

Under the leadership of Rahul Dravid, the current head coach of the Indian Team, India lost their first and only world cup game against Bangladesh.

The men in blue side also faced a lot of criticism after this loss, and they were later kicked out of the tournament by Sri Lanka. In this match, team India was all out for just 191 runs, and the team didn't even bat for their full quota of fifty overs.

Sourav Ganguly was the top scorer in this match with 66 runs, and Yuvraj Singh was the second-highest scorer with 47 runs.

In the run chase of 192 runs, Bangladesh lost some early wickets. But Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten 56 runs, Tamim Iqbal’s 51 runs and Shakib Al Hasan's 53 runs ensured that the Bangla Tigers would win their second one-day international match, causing the greatest upset to India.

2012

Bangladesh’s third win against India in the one-day international format came in the Asia Cup 2012 edition. This encounter is still remembered for Sachin Tendulkar's 100th International Ton.

The Master Blaster scored 114 runs, along with Suresh Raina's 51 runs and Virat Kohli’s 66 runs. India posted a competitive 289 runs in their fifty-overs quota.

But the target wasn’t enough as the Bangla Tigers chased this score down. The opening batter, Tamim Iqbal, scored seventy runs, and he was the top scorer for the team in this run chase.

Nasir Hossain and Jahurul Islam slammed their half-centuries alongside Mushfiqur Rahim. Shakib AL Hasan also contributed with the forties that helped Bangladesh chase down the score and win this match by five wickets.

2015

After the loss against Bangladesh in a world cup event in 2007, India has always been a better team than Bangladesh. But things changed from the series in 2015, when India toured Bangladesh under MS Dhoni’s leadership.

India lost the first match of that tour and their first-ever ODI series against Bangladesh.

The Tigers batted first and posted a good score of 307 runs. They reached this score because of the half-centuries made by Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar.

Despite getting off to a good start in the run chase of 307 runs, the Indian batters didn't build on the advantage, and they could score just 228 runs in the end.

Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman were the bowlers who did the job for their team. Fizz picked up a five-wicket haul in his first international match.

India needed to deliver and avoid their first series loss against Bangladesh. But it was Fizz again who dismantled the batting powerhouse of India in his second international game.

Rahman picked up five wickets in the first ODI and returned even stronger to take six wickets in the series-deciding match.

India could score only 200 runs in this must-win game because of Mustafizur Rahman’s six-wicket haul, and their overall bowling was excellent.

The Bangla Tigers chased down the score comfortably and won their first-ever ODI series against India. Bangladesh won this match by six wickets.

2022

Things didn't change for India on this tour to Bangladesh. The men in blue side again lost the first ODI and started the series with a loss, just like the 2015 series.

India batted first and posted just 186 runs in their fifty-overs quota. KL Rahul played well and scored 73 runs in this game. Then the Indian bowlers also bowled well, and it looked like India will defend this total.

But Mehidy Hasan's bold batting shocked India. Bangladesh had hopes of winning the first one-day international match. The spin bowling all-rounder Mehidy Hasan's show, allowed The Bangla Tigers to chase the total down with just one wicket in hand. India also dropped Hasan, and they paid the price for that.

2nd ODI 2022

India lost another series in the one-day international format against Bangladesh. The second ODI was also played at Dhaka, which has been a lucky ground for the Bangla Tigers.

Mehidy Hasan again came to the team's rescue, and this time he slammed his maiden ODI century. Bangladesh was in a reeling position. They had lost six wickets with just 69 runs on the board.

Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan snitched a stand of 148 runs to bring the innings on track.

Mahmudullah scored 77 runs, and Mehidy Hasan scored unbeaten hundred runs, which allowed Bangladesh to post 271 runs in their fifty overs quota.

The Indian batters were also in the game when Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel batted. These batters hit their half-centuries as well.

Rohit Sharma came lower down the order and slammed a quick-fire fifty. But still, India fell short by five runs and lost their second series in the fifty-over format.
