IND Vs AUS 2nd Test Match Preview: Team India’s Likely Playing XI

Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill/KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan/KS Bharat(wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj.

Virat Kohli’s Test form will be a huge amount of concern for Team India ahead of this four-match series of the red ball format in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.

India would be happy to win the first test match by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur.

At the same time, the hosts would be also worried because their main batter King Kohli hasn’t replicated his limited overs form in the Test format.

Now Shreyas Iyer has been declared fit for the second Test match in Delhi starting this Friday.

Iyer was ruled out of the three-match series of the fifty-overs format against New Zealand and the first Test match in Nagpur.

Shreyas has been in good form off late and he has been in better touch than Virat Kohli

Iyer will walk into the playing XI for the second Test match and according to many experts, Shreyas will come in for Suryakumar Yadav.

SKY scored just eight runs in the first Test match at Nagpur. Even KS Bharat too didn’t have a good debut.

He was also dismissed for just eight runs only. Ishan Kishan should have got the first nod ahead of Bharat because Kishan has been in decent touch.

But the selectors and the management will not make any other change than including Shreyas Iyer for the Delhi Test match because India gave a collective and all-round performance in the first Test match which allowed them to take a series lead of 1-0. Rohit, Jadeja, Axar and Ashwin were the stars of the Nagpur Test match.

Shami and Siraj also bowled well. Ashwin was also instrumental in that win as an all-rounder.

He was promoted as a batter in the lone innings which India batted in that first Test match and Ash shared a viral partnership with Skipper HITMAN in that innings.

Jaddu made an excellent return to the International side. He was named the player of the match in the 1st Test match.

India played the last Test match in New Delhi in 2017 against Sri Lanka. That Test was drawn and India has a good record in Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The men in the blue side have played 34 matches of the red ball format and they have won 13 and lost just six with 15 matches drawn.

At the same venue, India and Australia have played seven red ball games so far. India has won three of them and Australia has won just one while three matches ended in a draw.

The Aussies had a lone win in New Delhi way back in 1959. It was in 2013 that these two teams met in that stadium for the last time and the men in blue side had won that contest by six wickets.

India had looked as a better team than Australia in the series opening match and the Blues would aim to continue that run in the next upcoming matches as well.

David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head/Peter Handscomb, Alex Carey(wk), Cameron Green, Aston Agar/Todd Murphy, Pat Cummins(c), Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon.

The number one Test team didn’t look like they were prepared for that first Test match. Their batters and bowlers had no clue of the wicket and the team India at Nagpur.

Australia managed only 177 runs in the 1st innings and just 91 runs in the second innings at Nagpur.

The visitors will certainly look to improve their batting on these spin-heavy tracks in India.

The Aussies will stage a comeback in the second Test match in Delhi. In the second innings of the Nagpur Test match, Australia was bundled out in a session and even the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t see that coming.

The tourists will have a huge task to play out the spin trio of Axar, Jadeja and Ashwin in New Delhi because the track will offer turn there as well.

The Australian batters also failed to play the Indian pace bowlers well. Shami and Siraj got rid of the Aussie openers quite early than expected.

The openers need to lay down a solid foundation and also negotiate the new ball bowlers well. Both the openers, Khawaja and Warner failed to do that in the first test match.

Marnus Labuchagne was the top scorer for Australia. His 49-run knock in the first innings was the highest for the Aussies in the whole match.

Steve Smith had hung around for some time. But he was also undone by the Indian spinners in the end. As an experienced batter, Smith needs to do more in this series from now on.

The pace bowlers did a decent job in the Nagpur Test match. Boland and Cummins were good. But they need to be at their best like they play at home.

Both the pacers didn’t use enough variations against the Indian batters. They also missed an extra pace bowler in the 1st Test match. Australia can include Cameron Green for the second test match if he is fit.

Todd Murphy was the only positive from the first Test match. He picked up a seven-wicket haul in his debut Test match.

He was the only one who troubles the Indian batters and many times in that innings, he bowled better than the seasoned campaigner Nathan Lyon.

Australia should take the inspiration from the 1959 Test match, which they won at New Delhi to perform better in the second match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023.
