ENG Vs NZ: The ODI World Cup 2023 in India is just a few months away and all the teams have started their preparations to do well in that competition.
The defending champions of this year’s ODI World Cup 2023, England will play a series of four matches in ODIs and T20Is against the runners-up of last World Cup of 2019 and in the T20 World Cup of 2021.
The Kiwis will tour England for a limited-overs series. The hosts of the series, England has announced their squad for the fifty-over series and as well as the series of the shortest format.
The four-match ODI series will start from September 8 2023 at Sophia Gardens.
Ben Stokes who had announced that he would retire from the one-day international format last year in 2022, is now back in the ODI set-up of England.
Stokesy has been named in the series of the fifty-overs format. Ben is also the Test captain of England.
In the finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup, which ended in controversy, Ben Stokes was given the player of the match award at Lords Cricket Ground.
Last year in 2022, when he had quit playing the one-day international format of the game, Stokes said that it is not easy to play all three forms of the game.
But Ben Stokes will continue to lead the Test side of England and their next assignment in the red ball format is in India from January 2024.
England’s BazBall approach will be tested against the spin-friendly conditions of India. Stokesy and co-won the Test series in Pakistan with style of play.
England will also play a series of four matches in the T20 International matches as well against the visitors New Zealand.
However, Ben Stokes hasn’t been named in the squad of the shortest format. Jos Buttler will be the captain in this whole white ball series.
The defending champions of limited-over formats wanted to include their star pace bowler in the four-match one-day international series against The Kiwis. But the sad news is that Jofra Archer will not be available for both series because he will not recover in time.
England include Gus Atkinson in both the white ball series. Atkinson has received his maiden call-up at the international level from this home series.
Gus has played just 14 first-class matches and only two games of the fifty overs domestic cricket. But he is known for his pace and Gus is also part of The Hundred.
Josh Tongue is part of the T20 International series against The Blackcaps side. Tongue made his international debut against The Aussies in the Ashes 2023 series, which was drawn to two all.
John Turner will be part of the series of the shortest format as he also gets his maiden call-up at the international level.
