CPL 2023: The Caribbean Premier League has been another entertaining franchised-based cricket tournament just like we have the Indian Premier League tournament in India.

In the 12th match of the CPL 2023 season, Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) faced against the franchise team of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SNP).

The Trinbago Knight Riders won that match by 6 wickets due to Nicholas Pooran’s 61-run knock.

No player in the cricketing history has received a red card. This norm is generally followed in the game of football, where the match referee gives a red card to the player who violates the rules of that game and that player cannot take any further part in that match.

But now the red card exists in the game of cricket as well. A player from the host country of the CPL (Caribbean Premier League) got a red card on Sunday (August 27).

Sunil Narine, the player from the West Indies team received a red card when he played for the Trinbango Knight Riders team in yesterday’s game against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

The TKR side (Trinbango Knight Riders) won the game. But still one of their main players was on this unwanted list of getting the red card.

The CPL team has introduced the red card for the fielding team to solve the issues of the slow over-run rate. The red card is implemented to see whether the overs are completed on time during the innings.

The red card is a penalty to the fielding team where a captain is one player short and he should have just six players in the inner circle.

The slow over run rate has been a big issue in the franchise tournaments and the international matches as well and because of that the matches go beyond the finishing time.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also termed penalties for the teams who do not cope-up with the run rate in all three forms of the game.

The points of the World Test Championship (WTC) are also minimized.

Instead of 11 players, the Trinbango Knight Riders team was with just 10 players on the field after Sunil Narine was given the red card by the umpires and Narine was not allowed to complete his quota of four overs.

He bowled three overs and his match figures were 3 for 24. The former West Indian skipper and the current captain of the Trinbago Knight Riders team, Kieron Pollard wasn’t happy with this red card penalty.
