World Athletics Championship: In a remarkable feat, Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic champion, scripted history once again by becoming the first Indian male to secure a gold medal in the men's javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championship on Sunday, August 27.

With an incredible throw of 88.17 meters, Neeraj claimed this achievement, further solidifying his status as a global athletics sensation.

This achievement was particularly special as it marked the first time that three Indian athletes secured places in the top eight at the World Championship.

Jena Kishore, with a personal best throw of 84.77 meters, secured fifth place, while D.P. Manu, with his best throw of 84.14 meters, finished in sixth place.

Nevertheless, Chopra's journey to triumph encountered its initial hurdles. His initial throw was deemed a foul, but undeterred, he swiftly regained his momentum and proceeded to deliver a series of remarkable throws, consecutively measuring 88.17m, 86.32m, 84.64m, 87.73m, and 83.98m.

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, with his best throw of 87.82 meters, earned the silver medal, and Jakub Vadlejch from the Czech Republic claimed the bronze with a throw of 86.67 meters.

World Athletics Championship: Neeraj Chopra Joins Elite Club

This remarkable accomplishment by Neeraj Chopra places him in the elite category of athletes who have clinched both Olympic and World Championship titles simultaneously.

Earlier, Abhinav Bindra had achieved a similar feat, winning gold at the World Championship at the age of 23 and an Olympic gold at 25.

At the age of 25, the sensational athlete, Neeraj Chopra, initially made global headlines by achieving the remarkable feat of becoming India's first Olympic gold medalist in track and field at the Tokyo Games in 2021.
