Australia has announced a new captain for the one-day international format after Aaron Finch stepped down from captaincy a few months ago.
Pat Cummins will be leading the Baggy Green side in the fifty overs format and he is already the captain of the red ball format of the Australian cricket team.
The 29-year-old fast bowler is now the 27th player to lead Australia in the one-day international format and he is the only fast bowler to be the skipper of the fifty-over and test format captain in the world currently.
Pat Cummins had said that he has enjoyed playing under Aaron Finch and he has learned a lot from Finchy. He even said that Australia is lucky to have a captain like Aaron Finch, who has so much experience leading a team.
Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Alex Carey were the other contenders for this huge responsible post. But Cricket Australia (CA) gave another opportunity to Pat Cummins to showcase his leadership skills in the fifty overs format as well.

So, if this happens, then Cricket Australia might have to lift the leadership ban on an opening batter, David Warner, or make some other player like Glenn Maxwell or Alex Carey the leader for that game or series.
Cricket Australia said Cummins is a great option as the ODI captain, especially with the 2023 fifty-over World Cup in India next year.
