ICC Finals: The International Cricket Council is the main board that organizes World Tournament like the ODI world cup, World T20, Champions Trophy and also World Test Championship tournament. Every team aims to win The ICC tournament, which is a glorified event.
But making it to the finals is also a big achievement. The T20 World Cup in this year of 2024 is not far away. After the completion of the TATA IPL 2024 edition, all the teams will travel to United States of America (USA) and West Indies for that ICC mega event of the shortest format.
Before that event starts in June, let us see the 2 teams who have reached the finals of the ICC tournaments for the most number of times till now -
The Men in Blue side haven’t won a single ICC title since 2013 after their win in the ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only skipper from India in this cricketing world who has won all the three ICC Titles. Before the 2007 World T20 triumph in South Africa, India had just one ODI World Cup win which came in 1983.
But since MS Dhoni led the side, Team India had won their second ODI World Cup in 2011 at home and their second Champions Trophy as well. The first CT was shared between India and Sri Lanka because the final of the ICC event was rained off.
India has reached the ICC ODI World Cup finals for four times, 1983, 2003, 2011 and 2023. The men in blue side have won 2 of those events. In the ICC finals of T20 World Cup, Team India has reached the last round of that event for 2 times. In 2007, India won against Pakistan and 2014, Sri Lanka defeated India.
India had also reached 2 back to back ICC finals of World Test Championship. In 2021 and 2023. But they lost both of them. In the Champions Trophy, The Men in Blue have played 4 ICC Finals in 2000, 2002, 2013 and 2017. They won two of them in 2002 and 2013.
The Aussies have been in the 13 finals of the ICC tournaments. They have won the most ODI world cup events, and they have been in the final of the 50 over WC eight times and won six of them. They lost the finals of 1975 and 1996.
But they won the final of 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015 and 2023. Australia also played the Champion Trophy finals twice in the 2006 and 2008 editions and won both of them. In the tournament of the shortest format, Australia reached one final in 2010, and England won that title.
In 2021, the Baggy Green Side also clinched their first ever and only ICC title of the shortest format when they defeated the New Zealand side when the T20 World Cup was played in United Arab Emirates. Talking about the red ball format, The Aussies have also reached the finals of the World Test Championship in 2023.
