COVID-19 Surge in India: In the last 24 hours, India has reported a surge in Covid cases with 3,016 new infections, marking a 40% increase from the previous day.
The Union health ministry data indicates a daily positivity rate of 2.7% and a weekly positivity rate of 1.71%.
This figure is the highest recorded in almost six months, with the last similar count being reported on October 2, 2022, when India had registered 3,375 cases.
Within a duration of 24 hours, the death toll due to COVID-19 in the country has risen to 530,862, with 14 reported fatalities.
According to the website of the health ministry, the percentage of active COVID-19 cases now stands at 0.03% of the total number of infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been reported to be 98.78%.
In response to the surge in Covid cases across multiple states, emergency meetings have been scheduled to take place this week.
Delhi, which had reported zero infections on January 16th, has seen a concerning uptick with 300 cases recorded in the past 24 hours.
The Delhi government has organized a meeting for today with attendance from top health department officials, medical directors of state-run hospitals, and other stakeholders to assess the situation in the nation's capital.
There has been a significant surge in Covid cases in various districts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Sangli.
According to the Maharashtra government, despite their extensive efforts, a considerable number of people are still not opting for the Covid vaccine booster dose.
The officials have disclosed that the state has not yet administered the booster dose to even one crore individuals.
