Sun witnesses an explosion lasting for eight hours
In one of the biggest and longest events occurred on Sun, a massive solar flare erupted from Earth's star as it got active in its new cycle. As the growing sunspot AR3032 exploded it produced M3-class flares, to ones’s astonishment, this lasted for around eight hours. Two spacecraft from space watched this whole event.
This flare including earth moved with a very high speed. This event led to the ionization of the top of the atmosphere with extreme ultraviolet radiation released from the Sun. As a result of this explosion, Japan and southeast Asia faced a shortwave radio blackout too in their region.
As reported by spaceweather.com, local radio operators might have witnessed an unusual propagation effects at frequencies below 30 MHz for more than an hour when the flare was at its peak.
American Organisation National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) while reacting to this major event expressed its concern and issued an warning regarding the same. It stated that CME would be passing near Earth later this week and would possibly be delivering a glancing blow to earth’s magnetosphere. The CME might also trigger minor G1-class geomagnetic storms.
Indian Center of Excellence in Space too reacted over the issue and said. "Our DBEM fit indicates a glancing impact on 15 June with speeds ranging between 645-922 km/s. Flare-induced ionospheric perturbations and geomagnetic disturbances are likely to occur over the next few days," the institution tweeted.
