Pakistan's Former PM Imran Khan Released After Supreme Court Declares Arrest 'Illegal'

Imran Khan Arrest: Former Prime Minister Imran Khan's arrest on Tuesday in the Al Qadir Trust case has been deemed illegal by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The three-judge bench, led by the Chief Justice, condemned the arrest, describing it as "disgraceful" that Imran was taken into custody from the court premises.

The court ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to release Imran immediately and declared his arrest illegal. Following the court's order, Imran Khan has been released from custody.

The Supreme Court directed Imran Khan to appear in the Islamabad High Court on Friday (May 12) and emphasized that he must comply with the High Court's decision.

Following his release, Imran Khan revealed that he was physically assaulted while in remand and also claimed that he was abducted from the High Court.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court reprimanded the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) following the arrest of Imran Khan.

The Chief Justice, Umar Ata Bandial, also questioned why Imran Khan was arrested from the court premises. Furthermore, the Supreme Court directed NAB to present PTI Chairman Imran Khan in court within an hour. After Imran Khan appeared in court, the Chief Justice ordered his release.

President Alvi Also Expresses Disapproval of Imran Khan's Arrest Method

President of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, expressed his disapproval of the way Imran Khan was arrested by writing a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In the letter, President Alvi criticized the manner in which Imran Khan was taken into custody from the court premises, stating that it has tarnished the image of the country and caused ridicule in the international community.
