A massive explosion took place on Thursday afternoon in Bahawal Nagar of Punjab province, Pakistan's largest province. It is reported that 5 people were killed and 41 people were injured. The blast took place in Bahawal Nagar at around 3 pm on Thursday, but surprisingly, the mainstream media suppressed the news for several hours after that. Big news channels and websites did not carry this news.
Later videos of the incident started appearing on social media. It is believed that the Pakistani army and the government pressurize the media houses to suppress the news of attacks on Shias. Many Shia leaders have also been making similar allegations.
A Shia leader from Pakistan confirmed the blast during the procession. Later news agency 'AP' also reported that there was a terrorist attack on a Shia procession in Bahawal Nagar and 30 people were reported injured in it. However, he did not give details of those who died.
The government of Punjab province also kept this incident a secret for several hours. Later, city police officer Mohammad Asad admitted that a Shia procession had been attacked. The Shia leader of the area Khawar Shafqat also confirmed the incident.
Tension arose in Bahawal Nagar after this attack on Shias. Hundreds of people came out on the streets and the religious procession turned into a political rally. These people were demanding the death penalty for the attackers. Shafqat alleged that the police did not provide any security for the procession. Internet and mobile phone service have been suspended in the area.
