Quad Leaders Summit: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to participate in the Quad Leaders Summit, to be held in Sydney on May 24, alongside his counterparts from the US, Australia, and Japan.

The summit is expected to address the implications of the ongoing Ukraine conflict, as well as the overall situation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Additionally, the leaders will seek to enhance regional cooperation in response to China's growing military assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific.

Quad Leaders' Summit to be Held in Sydney on May 24

On Wednesday, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese declared that the Quad Leaders' Summit would be held on May 24 in Sydney, and expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming the leaders of India, the US, and Japan for the summit.

In a Twitter video, he stated that Sydney would host the Quad Leaders' meeting in 2023, with the iconic Sydney Opera House serving as the venue.

Modi responded to a tweet by Albanese, expressing his hopes that the upcoming Quad Summit in Sydney would strengthen efforts toward achieving a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

In a tweet, Modi thanked the Australian Prime Minister for hosting the summit and stated that he looked forward to visiting Sydney and engaging in discussions aimed at enhancing Quad collaboration across various domains to promote their positive agenda.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Prime Minister Modi is expected to attend the annual summit of the Group of Seven (G7) advanced economies, which is scheduled to take place in the Japanese city of Hiroshima from May 19 to 21, before his trip to Australia for the Quad Summit.

During his recent visit to India, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida extended an invitation to Modi to attend the G7 summit.

On the sidelines of these summits, Modi is anticipated to engage in several bilateral meetings.

Notably, this will be the first time that Australia will host the Quad summit, which will be the third in-person meeting of the Quad Leaders.

The White House has confirmed that President Biden will be participating in the G7 summit of leaders in Hiroshima, as well as the Quad summit in Sydney.

In its statement, the White House noted that the Quad leaders would be discussing ways to strengthen their collaboration on various issues of significance to the Indo-Pacific region, including critical and emerging technologies, high-quality infrastructure, global health, climate change, and maritime domain awareness.

The statement further mentioned that on May 24, President Biden, along with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be attending the third in-person Quad Leaders' summit hosted by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Sydney.
