Sakshi Malik Demands for Re-trails in Hunt of a Tokyo Olympic Berth

Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik has demanded re-trial to maintain her hopes of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics. Sakshi is currently preparing to participate in the Asian Wrestling Championship where she will compete in the non-Olympic category. The Rio Olympics bronze medalist Malik was defeated by Sonam Malik in the 62 kg Olympic trials.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has already made it clear that if players who win the trials do not perform well in international tournaments, then the trials can be conducted again. Sonam lost in the first round of the Ranking Series competition in Rome but if she managed to win a medal in the Asian Championship starting in Delhi on 18 February, WFI would not prevent her from participating in the Asian Olympic qualifier. This qualifier will be held in March.

Sakshi said, 'I expect a round trial. If I qualify for a trial, then I will have two chances to get an Olympic ticket i.e Asian World Olympic Qualifiers (AWC) and World Olympic Qualifiers. I want to qualify through these two tournaments. My preparation for AWC is good. Whatever be the competition, I will give my best to win a medal. I am working on improving my technique. I want to make sure that the mistake of previous tournaments will not be made again.'
