A resolution has been moved in the Legislative Assembly of Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal against the Citizenship Amendment Act made by the Central Government. There were speculations that the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly would also pass a resolution against this Citizenship Amendment Act.

Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar clarified the situation, saying that the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly will not move a motion against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The states of Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal, which have tabled in the Assembly against the CAA, have a single party government whereas Maharashtra does not have such a situation, with a coalition government of three parties (NCP, Congress and Shiv Sena).
