NADA Banned Weightlifter Sarbjeet Kaur for Four Years for Doping

The Indian women weightlifter Sarbjeet Kaur, who won the silver medal at the 2017 Commonwealth Games was banned for 4 years by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) on Wednesday. NADA has taken a tough decision on Punjab's Sarbjeet after failing a doping test and has banned her for 4 years. In the 71 kg category, National Champion Sarbjeet's sample was taken during the 34th National Weightlifting Championship.

The Anti-Doping Discipline Panel has found weightlifter Sarbjeet Kaur guilty of violating anti-doping rules, Nada said in a statement, 'She has been banned for a period of four years. Kaur was found positive in the test, has been found guilty of taking banned substance.'

Significantly, on December 28, another weightlifter Seema was also banned for 4 years. The quantity of substance found in the Seema's sample are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. In this statement it was said, 'In the review report of the samples that were taken, they were found to have prohibited results. According to the report, hydroxy 4 methoxy tamoxifen, selective estrogen receptor modulator metanolone, anabolic steroid ostarine, selective androgen receptor modulators were present. All these are banned by WADA."
