Significance of Mohini Ekadashi

According to religious beliefs, during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), a dispute arose among the gods and demons over obtaining the pot of nectar (Amrit).

It was then that Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Mohini, a woman of enchanting beauty. Disguised as Mohini, Lord Vishnu mesmerized the demons and took possession of the pot of nectar, handing it over to the gods.

By consuming the nectar, all the gods became immortal. It is said that since then, the Ekadashi of the Vaishakha Shukla Paksha came to be known as Mohini Ekadashi.
