Muslim Side’s Argument on Ownership: Ayodhya Land Dispute Case

Shivani Alakh

In the Supreme Court on Wednesday, in the case of ownership of Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi, the Muslim side argued that the claim is being made by placing the idol at the birthplace, but legally there is the right of the Muslim side.

Advocate Rajiv Dhawan of the Muslim side said that the Hindu side would have to prove what was their right there before 22-23 December 1949 when the idols were placed inside.

Nirmohi Akhara used to worship on the Ram platform outside, he never claimed authority inside. They are claiming authority inside due to a mistake made on the night of 22-23 December. The debate on the Muslim side will continue on Thursday.

Rajiv Dhawan, while highlighting the legal weaknesses of Nirmohi Akhara's case, told the court that his case was not acceptable. Opposing the claim of the Hindus, Dhawan placed various earlier judgments before the court, opposing the concept of continuing a mistake once made in the eyes of the law and creating a right from that persistent mistake.
