The country has recorded an increase in the number of elderly for the 49th consecutive year. According to the data released on Friday by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of the Government of Japan, the country's population is 12.67 crore.

Number of women is more than men
These figures clearly state that the number of women is the highest in the problem of growing elderly population. Of the total 71 thousand 238 people over 100 years of age, 88 percent are women.
