Kerala: Government has Decided to give a Special Alcohol Pass to the Drinkers

Nidhi Hakla

In the midst of the ongoing lockdown period in the country, the Kerala government has given relief to the drinkers. The government has decided to give a special alcohol pass on the prescription of the doctor. This pass will be given only to those who cannot quit alcohol addiction immediately. These people buy liquor from the Excise Department.

On Monday night, the government issued an order regarding the drinkers. As per the order, the government said that there have been several cases of suicides in the state due to the closure of liquor shops due to lockdown in the state. People who consume alcohol regularly are falling prey to frustration. The government has taken this step only to resolve the matter.

According to the notification, any person can submit the prescription of a government doctor or a private doctor of a government hospital to the nearest Excise Range office. This eagle should be mentioned in the prescription that he cannot leave alcohol immediately.

However, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) said the Kerala government's move was not scientific. It's suggested that instead of an alcohol pass that such a person should be treated in hospitals. The Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) has also come out against this order of the state government. Also said that doctors associated with the Mahare organization will not give a prescription for alcohol pass.
