Former Football Captain Baichung Bhutia Opposed Citizen Amendment Bill 2019

Former Football Captain and Politician Baichung Bhutia had opposed the citizenship bill. Founder and President of Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) Baichung Bhutia said that he is frustrated with the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2019. Regarding the protests in Assam, Bhutia said, "We also have the same issue as other states of Assam and Northeast." This is a bigger issue in Sikkim. The Original inhabitants of Sikkim have vanished and are under constant threat.

Sports star turned politician Bhutia said, 'I am saying on behalf of the people of Sikkim that we are very disappointed with this bill, because Sikkim was not excluded from this bill, while other states of the northeast are excluded and mentioned in written in the bill. Although the Home Minister had said about Sikkim in Parliament but it is not mentioned in the bill. He also said that the bill is completely against Article 371 which protects the interests of Sikkim and the rights of the people. He said that unemployment is the biggest challenge which Sikkim is facing today. This bill is against the sentiments of the people of Sikkim.
