Former Akali Sarpanch Shot Dead in Batala

Former Akali sarpanch Dalbir Singh was shot dead in village Dhilwan in Punjab's Batala. He belonged to the Akali Dal and had been the sarpanch of the village. The people of the village shot him in the night. After this, when he was sent to the private hospital in Amritsar, he died there. After the information, the police reached the spot and started the process of postmortem of the body and investigation of the case is going on. A postmortem will be conducted on Tuesday at the Civil Hospital in Batala.

The deceased has been identified as Dalbir Singh, a former Akali sarpanch of village Dhilwan. He held different positions in the party. It has been learned that late Monday night, Major Singh son Balwinder Singh, Mandeep Singh son Balwinder Singh and Balwinder Singh, besides 4-5 unidentified persons, attacked Akali leader Dalbir Singh. During this period, Dalbir Singh, who was injured after being shot by the opposing side, was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Amritsar. Dalbir succumbed there.

According to the relatives, the Congressmen of the village have executed this murder due to the old political rivalry. After getting information about this matter, police station Kotli reached the spot and started investigation. In this regard, SHO Avtar Singh said that the reason for the murder could not be ascertained. A case has been registered against Majer Singh, Mandeep Singh and Balwinder Singh and 4 others and started their search.
