According to geologists, the real cause of earthquakes is a strong movement in tectonic plates. Apart from this, earthquakes are also caused due to meteor impact and volcanic eruption, mine testing, and nuclear testing. The intensity of an earthquake is measured on the Richter scale. An earthquake of magnitude 2.0 or 3.0 on this scale is mild, while a magnitude of 6 means a strong earthquake.

This is how we estimate the intensity of an earthquake

The intensity of an earthquake is estimated by the energy waves emanating from its epicenter. This wave, which extends for hundreds of kilometers, vibrates. There are cracks in the earth. If the epicenter of an earthquake is at a low depth, then the energy released from it is very close to the surface, causing great destruction.
