The dates for the much-awaited by-elections in West Bengal have been announced. With this announcement of the Election Commission, the big tension of Mamta Banerjee has ended. The Election Commission of India has announced the by-poll dates for only three seats in West Bengal and one seat in Odisha. According to this, the by-election to the Bhawanipur assembly seat will be held on 30 September and counting of votes will be done on 3 October. Bengal's Bhawanipur assembly is the same seat from where Mamata Banerjee will contest the by-election.
The Election Commission has decided to hold by-elections in the Bhawanipur assembly constituency (West Bengal) on 30 September. By-elections will also be held in Samserganj and Jangirpur and Pipli (Odisha) in West Bengal on the same date. Counting of votes for the by-election will be held on October 3. However, the Election Commission said that the by-elections for the other 31 constituencies have been postponed due to Corona.
According to the Election Commission, September 13 will be the last date for filing nominations and candidates can withdraw their nominations before September 16. The Election Commission said that in view of the constitutional requirement and the special request of the State of West Bengal, it has been decided to hold by-elections for Bhawanipur (traditional seat of Mamata Banerjee). Very strict norms have been made by the commission as a precautionary measure to prevent corona.
The seven assembly seats for which by-elections will be held are Jangipur and Samserganj in Murshidabad, Gosaba in 24 South Parganas, Kharagpur in South Medinipur, Shantipur in Nadia, Dinhata, and Bhawanipur in Cooch Behar. Due to the threat looming over Mamata Banerjee's chair, TMC was repeatedly demanding the Election Commission to hold by-elections soon.
Let us tell you that TMC was united day and night to hold the by-election on Mamta's seat. The reason was that if Mamata Banerjee does not take membership in the assembly by November 5, then she will have to resign from the post of Chief Minister. As this period was getting shorter the restlessness of the Trinamool Congress was increasing. At the same time, BJP was also opposing the by-election.
