Ayushman India Grabbed Good Vote, Will the Government Expand the Scope?

Shivani Alakh

One of the major reasons for the massive victory of the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections has been the ambitious plans of the Modi government's social welfare. These include the Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY or Ayushman Bharat) which is expected to benefit 50 crore people. But the budget is still very low for this big scheme and a large part of the country's population is deprived of its benefits. So this time in the budget everyone will be looking at what the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman makes announcements about Ayushman. Will the budget increase? Will the scarcity of the scheme be added to the poor people of the middle class? All these will be answered on July 5, when Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget.

It is worth mentioning that under the Prime Minister Jan Swasthya Yojana (PMJAY) launched on September 23, 2018, 100 million families are being provided free treatment upto Rs 5 lakhs. The ambitious program of Modi Government is among the biggest social campaigns ever launched in the Ayushman Bharat Healthcare Sector. It is estimated to benefit 50 crore people of the country.

In the interim budget this year, the government has allocated Rs 63,298 crore for the health sector, out of which Rs 6400 crore budget has been released for Ayushman India. It is 166% more than its last year's budget of Rs 2,400 crore.

But lack of health facilities, especially in rural areas. In order to meet the needs of the entire population, the health services infrastructure is not enough. The government has decided to set up 1.5 lakh health and wellness centers under this scheme, through which the poor will be benefitted from the treatment. Therefore, this comprehensive infrastructure can not be established in such a small budget. This requires a huge budget and the delays in the budget allocation will also benefit the benefit of the scheme to reach out to all the beneficiaries.

It is also being demanded that by increasing the scope of this scheme, it should also try to include the Lower Middle Class, who has voted on a large scale to the BJP. The extent of the scheme has also been started to some extent. In some states it has taken initiative. The health insurance given to the employees by the Central and State Governments is also to be merged with the Ayushmann Plan. In many places, it is an attempt to make such a plan, in which, under the same scheme, 75 percent of the district's population can be provided medical facilities. Now to see what Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman makes announcements about this

The objective of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Swasthya Yojana is to provide a health cover to the financially vulnerable person. The purpose of this scheme is to provide better health care to every financially weak person. Under this scheme, you will get many facilities like hospital expenses, day care surgery, follow-up care, hospitalization before and after treatment, newborn health check and service expenses.

The benefit of this scheme will be 10.74 million families. These families are selected on the basis of socio-economic caste census (SECC). This includes poor families of rural areas and economically weaker families of urban areas. The families who will benefit from this scheme.
