Asian Archery Championship 2019: Abhishek Verma-Jyoti Surekha Won Gold Medal

Abhishek Verma and Jyoti Surekha Vanam have won the gold medal in the Asian Archery Championship. In the 21st Asian Archery Championships that ended here on Wednesday, the pair of Abhishek and Jyoti targeted gold. This is the only gold medal of Indian players in this tournament. However, Kulmilakar Indian archers have won seven medals to their name.

Abhishek Verma from Andhra Pradesh and Jyoti Surekha from Delhi have won the title by defeating Chinese Taipei Yi-Hsuan Chen and Chieh-Luh Chen 158-151. Indian players have won one gold, two silver and 4 bronze medals in this competition. Earlier, Abhishek Verma missed out on taking the gold medal from the Korea team in the Compound Team by just one point.

Abhishek Verma, who won the gold medal with Jyoti in the joint team, said, "The conditions were quite bad, because the wind was blowing and it was our last chance to win a gold medal, which was successful." At the same time, Jyoti Surekha Vanam said, "I am very happy with the score. Even in the last match, we came out well."

Abhishek Verma, Rajat Chauhan and Mohan Bhardwaj scored 58-58 points in the first round, but Korean team Jaewon yang, Yonghee Choi and Eun-Kyu Choi slowly seized the momentum by taking one point each from the other end. The penalty was heavy for the Indians, as the Koreans gained a significant three-point lead. However, the Indians scored 59 points in the last time. At the same time, Korean players scored 57 points, but they fell short, as the team had already lost by three points.
